DriftRadar® concept: towards the automatic management of spray drift
2025 · Arvalis
Spray drift is a major concern when plant protection products (PPP) are applied, mainly resulting from the drag of finer droplets by the wind out of the treated field. The main mitigation measure relies on the use of drift reducing nozzles on a portion of the boom in order to protect adjacent sensitive areas. The Driftradar ® concept aims at addressing a global and integrated management of a PPP application starting from the automatic setting of spraying parameters through a digital label of the PPP, a geolocalized management of sensitive areas and a real-time and in situ management of sprayer settings according to both the position of the nozzles and the wind direction. The study assessed such a concept both in silico and through field tests considering natural wind conditions. The results demonstrated the effectiveness of the system.
